PVC U PIPES DEVIATIONS OF INTERNAL DIAMETER AND WALL THICKNESS

Pipes made of hard PVC U will be delivered according to customer request in lengths of 5 or 12 meters. In the industrial sector delivery lengths of 5000 mm are usual. Normally they are produced with plain ends and without sockets. The ends are cut right-angled. Basic colour is RAL 7011, other colours are available according to application and usage. PVC U pipes show deviations of the outside diameter as well and permissible deviations of the internal diameter and the wall thickness. Depending on the manufacturing process, quite large deviations are possible. The average outside diameter can be determined by means of a circumferential measurement. However it is recommended to perform multiple measurements at different pipes, in order to better evaluate the pipe quality and to receive a good assessment of the pipe deviations. In the chart below are listed the mean values for PVC U pipes and the deviations of outer and inner diameter.  A closer look shows that depending on size, the deviations in inner and outer diameter might be considerable. For PVC U they are however permissible and do not represent a reduction in quality. The reason for this lies in the manufacturing process, the specific properties of PVC U pipes and of course the temperature characteristics as well. So, please don’t curse your supplier, in this case he is not at fault :) For further detailed information, please refer to the the applicable standards and guidelines.
